iChange is mainly a file manipulator but it's also useful as an info application for your files. You can read more about the different functions bellow. iChange is cheap shareware (9$), this means if you use iChange often you should register. You don't have any limitations, time limits or other "interrupting-the-workflow"-things. You can evaluate iChange as long as you want, you have all the functions; the only thing which reminds you that the application is shareware is a splashscreen (You can click it immediately away). If you want to register (I hope you do, I put a lot of time in this application...) you can go to url.jpg[order.kagi.com/?HEJ] and fill out the form (you need a credit card). On the other hand you can send me the money in an envelope (no coins, please). You can find my postal address at the bottom of this document. I am in no way responsible for any damage iChange could cause. I am thankful for any email.jpg[idea, improvement and/or feature request].

You can put iChange on CD but always all the files together (means: Application, Help File, Data File, ...). If you review my software, please put at least the URL of the website there. I'd also be glad to get a mail if there's a review somewhere (magazine, website...). I'd also be glad if there is someone pointing me to all my mistakes I am writing (so it'd have a more professional look...)

For news and/or updates visit url.jpg[macapp.net] where other shareware/freeware is posted as well.

Screenshots are taken from the OS X version!

This documentation is for version 3.0. Newest version is 3.0.1, which you can get from url.jpg[macapp.net].

Q: I have (e.g.) a textfile and want to convert it into (e.g.) word format. Can iChange help me?
A: No, not at all. iChange can change the creator code; this code defines the application in which the document is opened after doubleclicking on it.

Q: I'd like to see iChange in [fill in language]. Could you do this?
A: Of course I could but I can't speak every language. If you are a native speaker (or almost) send me an email.jpg[E-Mail] and we can manage this together.

Q: It'd be great if you could add [fill in a function]. Could you?
A: Yes, I can. Please drop me a line by email.jpg[E-Mail] and I will see what I can do.

With this tool you can change the attributes of your file(s). Drop your file on to the respective rectangle (or use the "Get File..." Button). If there is a suitable icon (not always supported under OS X) it will be displayed on the left (see screenshot above). The file's name and it's path are displayed on the right. Directly under this you can see the main attributes you can change. First of all the dates. Use the up- and downarrows to change the creation date (the date, when the file was originally created) and modification date (date of the last modification). Notice, if you use e.g. the 31. February (don't know why you would do this) the file will change this into a "real" date. The next point is the comment. Here's a difference between OS 9 and OS X. In classic mode, the maximum length of the comment is 199 chars but under OS X it's unlimited. Write in what you want here. Now an important point: You surly already had files which didn't open directly in the correct application (say you have a text file with white icon instead of a BBEdit file). Then the MacCreator Code is wrong. This code defines the application which opens the file after doubleclicking on it. The MacType is the code which says the OS what type of document it has to handle. There are "JPEG", "TEXT", "PDF", .... But be happy, you don't have to know all this codes. On the right you can see a triangle. Click on it an there will be shown a listbox with all the predefined codes. Choose the one that suits you. If you can't find it, drag an example file (a file which has the attributes you like) on the application, and press "Add...". So you have always all the needed codes in the application. You can optionally choose whether you want to change the files visibility and locked status attributes. If you've made everything you want, press "Save" (no undo possible). Press "Revert" if you want to revert all attributes to its original status (before pressing "Save"), press "Reveal" to reveal the file in the finder and press "Batch" to save this file with these attributes on another place ("batch" it). You can (although there's a special tool for this) adapt this settings to other files (without changing their names) by dragging n' dropping some files into the rectangle on the left ("Adapt quickly").

adapttofile.png

This tool is very similar to the "Change File" tool. But here, you can adapt multiple files to another file and/or settings. Say, you have 100 textfiles whose creation date you want to change to "30. July 2001". Then mark only "Change creation date" in "Settings". Use the up- and downarrows to change the date. The next step is to drag 'n drop your files onto the respective rectangle or use the "Get Folder..." or "Get File...". Everything you could change in "Change File" you can also change in this tool. Read the up.jpg[manual above].

changecontent.png

Let's imagine you have 1000 HTML-Files. In all these files you have a wrong email address; instead of "myname@mydomain.com" you wrote "myfriend@mydomain.com" in all of these files. This would need a good day of work to correct this. iChange makes all the work for you with just one click. Get your files by drag 'n drop or by pressing "Get File/Folder..." (you can make first the settings and then get the files as well). "Case sensitive" means that only exact matches are found and replaced ("myFriend" is not equal to "myfriend"). You can choose "Only replace in filename" to change the files name and not its content (Note: Case sensitive is not possible). "Only visible files" takes only the visible files (in the finder) to search for the string to find. If you want only the altered files be shown in the listbox on the right you can mark "Only show the altered files". The next two checkboxes looks whether the MacType and MacCreator code are correct. If you want e.g. to change only files which include ".html" in their names check the next box. If you don't check the next box "Work recursive" folders are ignored. Check "Don't replace, just show matching files" if you don't want to replace anything but to look for the string to find (at the moment, here's only case insensitive possible). Then press "Apply".
All the files are listed up in the left listbox. Doubleclicking on one of them sends the file to "Change file", option-doubleclicking reveals the file in the finder.

Hmmm... good question. I thank the person who will check my English spelling in this document, all the people who will translate my application in the future and all the people who are going to register.
